All those interested in applying for an MSF field mission need to complete a multi-stage application process.

Read the latest reports on our website and blog. Or follow us on the social networks: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin and our YouTube channel.

Participation in an information evening or webinar is mandatory for all applicants and is intended to help you answer your open questions and find out when the time is right to apply. The online information evening is led by members of the Austrian recruiting team, together with an experienced field staff member. Our goal is to give you a comprehensive insight into the professional and personal skills needed to work with MSF.

After attending an info evening or webinar, you may apply via a password-protected portal. Click through our self-assessment to check whether you meet all the requirements. We'll be happy to receive your application three to six months before you're available.

Within one month after the confirmation of receipt, the recruiting team of MSF Austria will contact you.

Our selection process includes an interview and several individual and group tasks. Applicants from non-medical professions must first pass a professional test.

After successfully completing the assessment center, we plan your participation in a preparation course. There you will receive a general, practice-oriented insight into the field work as well as comprehensive information about the structures and processes of Médecins Sans Frontières as an international, humanitarian organization.

Depending on the needs in the areas of operation, your time availability and your professional profile, the search for a suitable project position can take different lengths of time. This is where your flexibility is put to test once again!  As soon as you have a concrete offer from us and agree to it, preparations for the departure (visa, vaccinations, briefings, etc.) can begin.

After comprehensive briefings about your assignment country, the project, your specific area of responsibility on site as well as current safety precautions, your assignment can start.

Details about contract and insurances can be found here.
