To ensure that you can focus fully on your responsibilities in our humanitarian projects, we offer the following benefits: 

• Employment Contract: Fixed-term contracts with social security contributions, including paid leave.
• Salary: MSF staff receive a monthly salary based on the role and relevant professional experience. The minimum annual starting salary for employees with residency in Austria results in EUR 21.753,- gross. Small variations may apply for employees based in other countries. 
• Comprehensive insurance package: valid during the contacting period with MSF and coverage extends for 3 months beyond the duration of the contract.
• On-Site Support: Accommodation, transportation, and daily allowance provided. 
• Travel Costs Covered: We take care of assignment-related travel expenses and preparatory measures such as visas and vaccinations.
• Medical emergencies: In case of a medical emergency, we arrange transport to a country with adequate medical standards or repatriation to your country of residence.

Becoming part of our team you will participate in an internal preparatory course at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This course provides you with a detailed overview and essential information to help you prepare for your first assignment with MSF.

Once we have identified a suitable position for you in one of our international humanitarian projects, you will receive an information pack about you destination country. As part of your preparation you will receive several briefings, covering topics like departure/travel, project content, your job description and medical aspects. These briefings furthermore cover the security situation and any specific behavioral guidelines. 

Your health is our priority. As part of our insurance package, we cover the costs of the mandatory tropical medical check-up and all necessary vaccinations and/or malaria prophylaxis.

We assist with travel planning and help handling with administrative tasks related to your departure including visas, flights, certificates for authorities or health insurance companies. 

Even after you’ve departed, our Vienna office remains available to support you with any concerns. 

After your return we conduct comprehensive debriefings to help you process your experiences and contribute to our own ongoing organizational development.

Given the significant physical and psychological demands of our work, we offer a thorough (tropical) medical examination and psychological support after your assignment. Additionally, you will be contacted by volunteer colleagues from our peer support network who have experienced the return process themselves and can offer guidance if needed.

After your return, you will have various opportunities to share your experiences with the public through our press and events department. This will allow you to continue making an impact, not just with actions but also with your words.
