Peter Greenwald

Have you ever been abroad for a significant length of time or on a humanitarian mission before?
I have previously worked at Bugando hospital in Mwanza Tanzania and I have lead medical trainings for Libyan first responders under the auspices of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Why did you decide to go on mission with MSF?
Now several decades into my career I have the flexibility to do this type of work. Working in this capacity has been a wish of mine beginning early in my training in the early 1990s.

What do you value most about MSF?
Both the mission of direct medical support and the mission of bearing witness resonate with me on an inner level.

What are you looking forward to most on your (next) mission?
I look forward to making myself useful to others and broadening my life experieince.

Is there anything that you take along to every mission?
I always need my coffee, this is not something I will leave to chance.

What are you passionate about and how do you like to spend your free time?
I like building things. This applies to both medical systems, but also is true for most mechanical projects. Give me the opportunity to take apart a diesel motor or fix a plumbing problem, and I will be a happy man.

What is your most unforgettable experience in the field?
The Mathare assignment will be my first with MSF, ask me in 6 months and I will do my best to answer!
